cast of characters

Lani and Ann are the Weaver sisters!

Lani's household consists of Steve, the long-suffering coding genius and computer security guru; Jim, Lani's tall, red-headed and handsome son, currently finishing his second year of college; Hunter, Jasmine, Himari, Chenault, the miraculous Onyx and the even more miraculous Resk, undisputed feline rulers of the house; and Jesse, the man-hating green-cheeked conure.

Ann's household consists of Don, who is not just a computer genius but a pilot, a builder, and a damn good father; their son Steve, the marathon-running, college-bound, funniest teenager I know; and wonder dog Tater.

Other family members are Laurie, Lani's beautiful daughter who teaches at elementary levels; her handsome son Alex, aka Alexander the Great; Mary and Bo, a/k/a Mom and Dad, and Bud and Ann, Steve's patient and wonderful parents.

Robert Burton said (posted by Lani)

"It never yet happened to any man since the beginning of the world, nor ever will, to have all things according to his desire..."

He was right. We found a house outside of Boulder we love; the sellers want too much money for it, and so it isn't going to happen. We gave it our best shot, they said no ... we went over the numbers again and again, and the bottom line is that the most we're willing to pay is just not going to be the least they're willing to take. So ... I'm sad, Steve is sad, Nancy the Wonder Realtor is sad, but it is what it is.

Having said that, I realize that actually I neglected saying this (although I'm guessing you figured it out): We're definitely moving to Colorado. Steve's start date with his new company is January 7th but we're tentatively thinking we'll be doing the actual move the second or third week of January since I put my foot down and said I am NOT going to move over Christmas or New Year. Nancy has switched from find-us-a-house-to-buy mode to find-us-a-place-to-rent-for-a-while mode for now; I'm consoling myself that it'll be easier to look for a house once we actually live there, anyway.

Our house here will go on the market this week, and we're doing everything we can to make it sell quickly. Of course by that I mean that I'm trying to get every single aspect of the house ready for total strangers to come poke and pry. Our house is clean, but not stranger-ready, if you know what I mean; I'm having to make sure every cabinet, every drawer, every closet can withstand scrutiny. I'm also trying to rearrange furniture and declutter and so forth to make the place look larger and more appealing to random strangers, as opposed to what may be comfortable for us. Steve is doing his part by being Eeyore, grumbling and grousing and moaning about all of this and pointing out that people have bought and sold houses for YEARS without doing this new-fangled "staging" thing. He does come and move furniture and tote boxes of books and such to the garage as required, but he's definitely out of his comfort zone with all these changes.

Wish us luck; it's going to be crazy around here for the next few weeks!

Happy Birthday To You! (posted by Lani)

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday, dear sister ...
Happy Birthday to you!

Happy happy, Annie; hope you're having a wonderful day. I'm out here in snowy Colorado, and who the HELL told anybody it could snow out here while I'm househunting is something I'd seriously like to know. Spent hours and hours looking at house after house after house today and found some nice ones and some that were kinda meh and one weird one and two that we opened the front door, looked at each other, closed the front door, and that was the end of that. We have two more houses to look at tomorrow, and then we have some decisions to make. What's that? Pictures? Why, of course I took pictures! Here, take a look at some of them.

Here you have the living room of one house. Yes, this is the living room. Yes, I'm sure.
Ye Olde West(e)

Here you have one seriously nice deck and hot tub.
What a view from your hottub

Yes, I took pictures of bathrooms. This one had cool sinks, although I wonder how practical they are.
Cool Bathroom!

Here is Misty. Misty is possibly the world's luckiest cat. This is Misty's loft. That's right, Misty's loft. She has an assortment of beds (one beneath each window), a chair of her very own (her owner says he used to get to sit in it, but not anymore), her food and water dishes here out of doggie reach, and to the right (couldn't get it into this picture) a private spot for her litterbox and a kitty tree under a skylight. Misty is a Lucky Cat.

This is a one-lane road, and it's a narrow one. Slope up on one side, steep slope down on the other. Look ahead of us. See that van? He's coming up. We're going down. This picture was taken after we backed up the slope from where the van is, to allow him to come up and pull into that drive on the right. Backing up this hill Was Not Fun. The house at the top of this hill lost major points.
Mexican (Coloradan?) Standoff

And finally, I leave you with pictures of the beauty that is Colorado. These are just random pictures, taken out of the car window as we drove around househunting.
Colorado Rocks
It's awfully pretty here, even if it is kinda cold.
