cast of characters

Lani and Ann are the Weaver sisters!

Lani's household consists of Steve, the long-suffering coding genius and computer security guru; Jim, Lani's tall, red-headed and handsome son, currently finishing his second year of college; Hunter, Jasmine, Himari, Chenault, the miraculous Onyx and the even more miraculous Resk, undisputed feline rulers of the house; and Jesse, the man-hating green-cheeked conure.

Ann's household consists of Don, who is not just a computer genius but a pilot, a builder, and a damn good father; their son Steve, the marathon-running, college-bound, funniest teenager I know; and wonder dog Tater.

Other family members are Laurie, Lani's beautiful daughter who teaches at elementary levels; her handsome son Alex, aka Alexander the Great; Mary and Bo, a/k/a Mom and Dad, and Bud and Ann, Steve's patient and wonderful parents.

Some people have lace curtains. (posted by Lani)

I have icicles, and I love it.

I'm getting kind of used to the snow now; in Virginia I wouldn't drive if a flake fell. Here? Well, on the left is what it looked like as I was driving down the mountain yesterday afternoon. I'm way cautious, and our car does have studs on, but I'm proud of myself anyway. Me! Florida girl! Driving in a snowstorm! I think part of that love is what you get after the storm. That picture on the right? I can live with that.

Onyx is not as amused about the whole snowstorm thing as I am. He still occasionally asks to go out and I put his harness on and he runs to the door, and I open it and he steps out ... and takes a few steps ...
and then he looks at me and meows. This is one of those meows that I can very clearly understand. He's saying "Now, hold on a minute here. This isn't what I wanted. I wanted sunshine, and grass to roll in, and flowers to nibble. What are you trying to pull?" And then he stalks indignantly to the door and demands to go back in and ignores me for an hour or so. Poor kitty.

In other news, I've actually done a little knitting for the first time in ... wow. At least two months, seriously. I finally finished those socks I started back at your house *mumblemumble* months ago, and the rainbow sweater, and I'm almost done with a bag I've been working on; I ran out of yarn (isn't denial grand?) and have been saved by the kindness of a fellow Ravelry member, who had a partial skein of the exact same dye lot and is mailing it to me so I can finish. But more importantly, I'm in the process of turning what used to be the darkroom into a very NOT dark craft room. Here's what I've got so far:

It'll change over time, I'll add more cubes on top of the existing ones, and get a better sewing machine table, and put a long cutting/blocking/whatever table on the wall where the cheapy plastic cubey thing is now, but it's shaping up and I'm happy.

Steve's office is also shaping up, but more slowly. That was the one truly unfinished room in the house; they prepped it for drywall but never got around to finishing the room. So in the next month or so we'll get it drywalled (Steve is NOT Don and will NOT do it himself) and painted, and try to find some furniture to match the really stellar maple desk that we found at the really stellar furniture consignment place here, and he'll be in business.

Said furniture consignment place consigns stuff not only from individuals, but from model homes. We've given them a bit of business and will no doubt give them more over time. Case in point: Our new dining room.

Quite a change from the very traditional style I've always favored, but it totally fits the house. Heck, it even makes the light fixture, which I hated with the burning fire of a thousand suns, look ... ok. Not bad. Anyway Steve was very Eeyore about the green chairs, but now that we've got them in place he loves the look of it. I love it too. Now to hang those pictures ...

Do you have an extra bedroom? - because I'm moving in! Your new home looks GORGEOUS! I am also envious of your amazing craft room. Your pictures look like a scene from a LYS.

Jen, you can come visit my snow if I can come visit your Mardi Gras fun! I'm tickled pink about having a real craft room. And the cube organizers from Lowes? NOT expensive, and they make even cheap yarn look good!

Wow I'm soo jealous!! The room looks great! Looks like a craft aisle. I don't have even half that amount of yarn or supplies.
I look forward to seeing what you make next.
