cast of characters

Lani and Ann are the Weaver sisters!

Lani's household consists of Steve, the long-suffering coding genius and computer security guru; Jim, Lani's tall, red-headed and handsome son, currently finishing his second year of college; Hunter, Jasmine, Himari, Chenault, the miraculous Onyx and the even more miraculous Resk, undisputed feline rulers of the house; and Jesse, the man-hating green-cheeked conure.

Ann's household consists of Don, who is not just a computer genius but a pilot, a builder, and a damn good father; their son Steve, the marathon-running, college-bound, funniest teenager I know; and wonder dog Tater.

Other family members are Laurie, Lani's beautiful daughter who teaches at elementary levels; her handsome son Alex, aka Alexander the Great; Mary and Bo, a/k/a Mom and Dad, and Bud and Ann, Steve's patient and wonderful parents.

House (posted by Ann)

Our good friends, Tim and Ann, have their 50th birthdays this year just like Don.

And me. Sigh.

Anyway, Ann's birthday was mid October, and so she decided to have a Halloween birthday party, costumes mandatory. I was all set to go with cow slippers, and a pig nose. I know, not the most obvious costume, but I was going for Mu Shu Pork. (At least I thought it was funny - I don't think anyone else did, but I was amused.) I ordered my pig nose on-line, and the day before Halloween I still had no pig nose. So I panicked! and went to several Halloween stores, which were awful. Miniskirted costumes that I don't think would have looked good on me at 25, and as I've mentioned I'm not 25.

Next up was JoAnn Fabrics to see what I could find, and there right by the front door was this sheer fabric with red spiderwebs - and I immediately thought of 3rd Sister's "Spider Queen" outfit, and blatantly copied it as best I could. (Thank you, 3rd Sister, for the inspiration!) Here I am with my friend Ann, who was Morticia.

There was an angel and devil, a beauty queen with the sash reading "Miss Diagnosed", and a really funny guy with an inflatable fat lady costume, smoking a cigar.

After all those, the real winner of the night was Don. On the left, Hugh Laurie as House, and on the right Don as House. Next time he grows a scruffy beard I'm going to get a picture from the same angle.

Wow! Don really does look like House. Same sunny disposition too.

I thought your Spider Queen picture on Facebook looked familiar! Not a bad. I do have you beat on the dress though. Mine is from college. :) Mother kept it because it's velvet.
